How I Made $900 In The First Month With My Mini Website

Hi George,

Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.

Today I want to talk about a mini website that I am building as
a case study. The results I got surprised me, and that is why I
wanted to share them with you.

------

When I re-opened the Online Profits training program back in June,
there were two main changes. First of all the course became
virtually free. That is, you just need to create a hosting account
with my hosting partner to gain a lifetime member account to the
program now.

The second change was the introduction of a new section in the
members area, called "Live Case Study." Inside that section members
would basically follow the steps I would take to build, promote and
monetize a website from scratch. I created this section because I
wanted the members to gain some practical knowledge too, learning
how to apply all the concepts they would get from the training
material.

I decided to build a mini website for the case study (also called
niche website), because you don't need to spend too much time or
money building one, and once the site is "complete," it becomes a
passive stream of income.

This doesn't mean that making money with mini websites is fast
though. I launched my mini website in July, and I was expecting to
start generating some revenues with it after three or four months.
But this little project surprised me. In the very first month it
generated $875 in profits, and I only used free methods to promote
it. I am not sure how things will evolve, but if things keep going
as they are, by the end of the year the mini website will be making
close to $2,000 per month.

If you want to follow the case study and check all the steps I am
taking to build and promote the mini website, with screenshots and
monthly reports, you just need to join the Online Profits training
program.

I say "just" because it is a no-brainer right now. You'll
pay $5 or so to sign-up for a hosting account with our partner
(HostNine), and you'll get complete access to our training
material, the live case study, the resources section, the content
library and more. Plus, you get another hosting account, and you
can use that to build your own mini website.

You can check all the details and join here:

http://www.onlineprofits.com

If you have any questions about how the training program works,
just let me know and I'll get back to you.

Talk to you next week,
Daniel Scocco

George, Do You Make This Keyword Research Mistake?

Hi George,

Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.

Today we'll talk about keyword research. More specifically, about
one mistake that most online marketers make when performing keyword
research.

---------

As you probably know most people rely on search engines when they
need to find any kind of information these days. That is why
keyword research is so important, because it allows you to
understand what your target visitors and customers are looking for,
how they are searching for it, and how frequently they are doing so.

Here is a practical example to help you understand the concept.
Suppose you just a wrote a post on your blog titled "20 Funny
Images of Babies." What if you changed the title to "20 Funny
Pictures of Babies," however?

From the user's point of view, both titles are too similar to
distinguish, and should not really make that much of a difference.
However, if you pick the second title mentioned, you'll have a much
higher chance of receiving traffic from search engines, because the
term "funny pictures" is almost 40 times more searched on than the
term "funny images."

How do we know that, however? It is simple, we used an online
keyword research tool. There are some paid tools available on the
market, but we don't recommend that you spend money on them. The
best and most reliable keyword research tool is a free one, and
it is provided by Google itself. It is called Google AdWords Keyword
Tool, and you can access it here:

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Whenever you input a keyword there, the tool will tell you how many
people search for that keyword every month (along with some other
data, like the amount of advertising competition for the keyword).

It is very exciting when you find keywords that get hundreds of
thousands of searches every month, but that is exactly what leads
online marketers to the mistake we mentioned earlier. The mistake
is to assume that you should always target the keyword with the
highest number of searches.

Why is that a bad idea? Because the number of searches a keyword
gets only tells you half of the story. The other half is how many
webmasters are competing to get traffic from that keyword. In other
words, you need to evaluate both the traffic potential and the
competition for each keyword.

If you only target the high traffic keywords, you'll probably have
a hard time getting any traffic, because your posts or websites
will not rank well for these keyword. If you pick keywords with lower
traffic and lower competition, on the other hand, you will not get a
stellar traffic, but at least you'll get some traffic.

In the example we used above, therefore, you would also need to
analyze the competition for both "funny images" and "funny pictures"
before choosing which one you should target. If you believe your
site is strong enough to rank for "funny pictures", go for it. If
you are not sure, perhaps it would be wiser to go with the less
searched "funny images".

The bottom line is: target keywords you are sure you can rank for,
and gradually make your way up to the competitive ones. If do this
the other way around you'll get frustrated and end up wasting a lot
of time.

George, Are You Using Google Webmaster Tools?

Hi George,

Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.

Today I want to talk with you about a resource that every blogger
and web publisher should use: the Google Webmaster Tools.

--------

Given that Google controls around 80% of the search market, whenever
they create a tool to help you rank better, you should use it!

Google Webmaster Tools offers just that. First of all you can create
your account here: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

Once your account is active you'll need to add your site and verify
it by placing a string on the HTML head section (they will provide
instructions).

The first thing you want to do after verifying your site is
to click on "Site Configuration" and then "Settings". There you'll
be able set your "Preferred Domain". This important to make sure
that Google will index only one version of your site (either the
one with the www. prefix, or the one without it). There is no best
choice here; it is a matter of preference. Just make sure that
the version you'll choose is actually working on your site, and not
redirecting to another version.

At this point Google won't have much data about your site, so you
can leave it there. After a couple of weeks you should login again,
and then explore the other features.

The most important section you should pay attention to is the "Crawl
Errors" one, under the "Diagnostics" link. This basically will tell
you if Google is facing any problems while crawling your site. If it
is, you should try to fix the issue immediately, or your search
rankings could suffer.

Not all errors are equally serious. The "Not Found" ones,
for example, might just be site owners that linked to the wrong URL
inside your site. Similarly, "Restricted by robots.txt" errors can
be caused by disallowing crawling of certain areas on your site
legitimately. Be careful with the "Timed out" and "Unrecheable"
errors, though, because they mean that the Google bot is not
reaching your pages correctly. If you get too many of these errors
your complete site might get de-indexed.

After exploring the "Crawl Errors" section you should take a look
at "Crawl stats" and "HTML suggestions", both under the
"Diagnostics" link.

"Crawl stats" will show you how often the Google bot is visiting
your site. The graph should be stable, if not growing. If you see
a downward trend there is something wrong there. Remember that
the more often the Google bot visits your site the higher your
authority for Google.

The "HTML suggestions" part will report problems with your meta
tags. A very common problem webmasters have is a large number of
duplicate title tags. If you have, take a look at your blog
structure to solve the problem.

That is about it. There are other interesting sections inside
the Google Webmaster Tools, but the ones I mentioned above are
directly related to the performance of your site inside Google,
so you should keep an eye on them regularly (i.e., at least once
a month).

website and increase your earnings? Come check my training program

George, Do You Want More Social Media Traffic?

Hi George,

Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.

Today I want to invite you to join my Social Media Clubs. These are
basically email lists that help members get more social media
traffic and exposure to their blogs and websites. Below I explain
how they work.

-------

First of all both of my clubs are completely free to join, but they
are limited to the readers of my blog and members of my training
program. Secondly, they work pretty much as a mailing list, where
you both receive and post messages via email.

The first group is called "Wevote Club", and it is about getting
traffic from social bookmarking sites like Digg, StumbleUpon and
Delicious. Members can post one request per week. Once you send
your request other members will vote on it, on the sites you have
specified. The main rule is that only quality content is allowed to
be submitted (so no commercial stuff or content that wouldn't
be popular on these social sites naturally). If you want to join
this club you need to have an active account on those bookmarking
sites, and you need to understand how they work.

The second club is called "Retweet Club". As you might have guessed
this one is about getting traffic from Twitter. You'll basically
send a request to the club with a message that you want retweeted,
and other members will retweet it to their followers. The only
requisite for joining this club is to have a Twitter account with
at least 1,000 followers.

HOW TO JOIN

You can join either or both of the clubs. Simply reply to this email
stating your interest (please mention which of the clubs you want
to join).

Make sure to use an email address with an active Google account on
it, because I use the Google Groups platform to run the clubs.

Once I get your email I will send you an invitation, and you'll
just need to read the rules and click on a link to confirm your
desire to join the club.

I am looking forward to seeing you on the clubs!

Talk to you soon,
Daniel Scocco
