George, Solve a Problem. Preferably Yours
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
Most people don't start a business (be it a brick and mortar
business, an online app or even a website/blog) because they can't
find the right idea to pursue. They think about it regularly (i.e.,
about starting something), but no spark of inspiration comes, at
least not one that will motivate them enough to wrap up the sleeves
and start working on it.
One of the causes of this pattern is that people tend to associate
businesses with money. When they think about starting a business,
they start thinking about how they can make money. And while the
money aspect is important, focusing on it right away might not be
the best strategy. Why? Because no business exists solely to make
money (except banks perhaps...). Businesses exist to solve problems.
In other words, if you are looking for that next idea to pursue you
should think about what problem you want to solve. Only after you
figure that out you can start thinking about how you can actually
make money while solving that problem.
The question then becomes: whose problems should you solve? The
problems of the eskimo's kids on northern Alaska? The problems of
the members of the UK Royal family?
How about your start solving your own? As they say in business
circles, how about you scratch your own itch? Simple as it sounds,
this strategy created some of the largest fortunes on earth.
Here's an example: Back in 2005 Chad Hurley and Steven Chen shot
many videos on a dinner party they attended in San Francisco, and
they wanted to share those videos with friends over the Internet.
They tried some of the solutions available, but none worked well,
so they decided to create their own website where people would be
able to easily upload and share videos. That website was called
YouTube.
Another one: In the early 1970s, a 20-something Steve Wozniak fell
in love with computers. The problem was that only large mainframe
computers were available at that time, so you needed to either rent
computer time from corporations (which was very expensive) or use
one at a university (which had time and other constraints). The
solution? He decided to build his own personal computer so that he
could use it at his home. His friend Steve Jobs figured that many
other people would want to have a computer at their homes as well,
and they decided to found Apple Computer to start selling those.
Practically speaking, here are some exercises you can make to come
up with that next idea:
-Think about businesses/websites/apps that you would love to use but
that don't exist yet.
-Think about services and products you already use but that make you
mad because one aspect or another.
-Think about stuff you would like to do but are not able to because
there's no product/service for that in the market.
Now go solve that problem!
Talk to you next week,
Daniel Scocco

George, Check Out John Chow's Blogging Course
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
If you are looking to get started with a blog, or if you have been
blogging for a while but are not happy with the amount of traffic
or money your site is generating, I recommend that you take a look
at a course that my buddy John Chow just launched, called Blogging
with John Chow (just to be upfront: I am not an affiliate, so I am
not making any money whether you buy it or not). Here's the
link:
--> http://bloggingwithjohnchow.com/
As you probably know pretty much every week there's a new
Internet marketing or blogging course/ebook being launched. I
rarely recommend any, though, cause I am never sure if the person
behind it really knows what he's talking about or not, and
whether or not the numbers and figures being mentioned are real.
With John I don't have this problem. He got started in the game
many years ago (earlier than myself, in fact), and he's one of
the most experienced guys around when it comes to affiliate
marketing and monetizing blogs.
Sure, he has a peculiar style (writing about cars and the places he
goes to dinner, for instance), but his strategies work, cause he
makes over $40,000 per month from his blog JohnChow.com alone.
John gave me access to the program a couple of days ago. It
contains the 9 core modules below:
1. Blogging 101 (choosing what to write about and common mistakes)
2. Launching Your Blog (software, domains, etc)
3. Brand-o-nomics (habits of successful bloggers, social networking)
4. Content is King (content ideas, attracting comments, etc)
5. List building (how to build your email list, squeeze pages)
6. Monetizing 101 (advertising, ad networks, affiliate marketing)
7. Hunting Down Readers (how to grow your traffic and subscribers)
8. SEO (optimizing for google, linking strategies, etc)
9. Analytics (Google Analytics, social media monitoring, etc)
On top of that you'll get access to a 30-day action plan that
you can follow to get your blog up and running, four extra modules
on automation and outsourcing, and a bonus video with a
presentation where John talks about the behind the scenes of his
blog (quite entertaining).
The cost of the program is $37, which I think is a fair price for
the amount of content and information you'll get. If you
believe this might be the right course for you head to the website
where you can get all the details and purchase it. Here's the
link again:

George, You Got to Take What's Yours
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
A couple of weeks ago I participated in a hackathon (i.e., a
programming competition) with my brother. The topic of the
hackathon was "Transparency and Society", so each team had to build
an application that would make something more transparent and
improve society as a consequence.
Teams had the whole day to work on their projects, and by the end
of the afternoon there would be a voting session, and the winning
team would take a prize of $2000 and get some media exposure as
well (which is what I was after, in order to promote my mobile
development company).
Long story short we had by far the best app there. Our goal was to
improve the quality of the 3G/4G services here in Brazil (as they
are terrible) by making the data about the real speed that each
mobile carrier was delivering to its customers more transparent and
available to everyone.
We therefore created a mobile app (our prototype was working both
on Android and iOS) that would collect some data from the user,
including his carrier, connection type and city. The user would
then start the test to measure the speed of his Internet
connection, and once completed all the data would be sent to our
central server.
On the server we process all the data and calculate the average
connection speed being offered by each mobile carrier on each city
of the country, and then make this information available both on
the mobile app itself as well as on a dedicated website.
In other words, with this app anyone would be able to know which is
the best mobile carrier, what's the real average connection speed
on any city and so on. Possibly this increased awareness we put
pressure on the carriers to improve their services.
The technical jury selected our project among the 3 that would make
a demonstration on the main stage. So far so good, and now we would
need to convince the general public.
I knew that the order of presentations could affect the outcome.
Usually the last one to demo is favored, cause he can see the
mistakes that other presenters made and fix them, and because the
last demo will stay fresher in the minds of the audience, so they
are more likely to vote for it.
Instead of insisting on drawing the presentation order at random,
though, I just waited to see what would happen, and sure enough my
brother and I were asked to demo first, just because the organizers
remembered the name of our project more easily...
Once all presentations were made it was time for the public to vote
on their favorite project. Guess what, the organizers didn't have
anything planned as to how they would count the votes.
I saw trouble coming.
The master of ceremonies, who was a showman and thus more
interested in making things entertaining for the public rather than
fair for the competitors, started taking ideas about how they
should count the votes.
Some people suggested that it should be based on the amount of
noise generated by claps of the audience. Then a guy jokingly
shouted that farts should be counted as well (I kid you not).
The master of ceremonies liked the idea (the fart one...), but
decided to give it his own twist. He said: "Okay I like that. Let's
do the voting using our butts. If you want to cast your vote for a
project you'll need to come here and touch the stage with your
butt". (again, I kid you not).
Laughs exploded in the room, and I looked to my brother in
disbelief.
I wondered for a moment if I should raise my hand and argue that we
needed a more serious voting system to make things fair (and to
avoid transforming the whole thing into a circus...). I didn't do it
though, probably because I was afraid to confront the organizers in
front of everyone else.
Within seconds the guy declared: "Okay who wants to vote for the
first project come here on stage and touch it with your butt, right
now!".
Needless to say that most people were embarrassed to walk from
their seats to the stage. They would be embarrassed merely to walk
up there, let alone to go there and touch the stage with their
butts...
We got 18 butts, I mean votes. That's including my brother and I,
cause they said we were allowed to vote for our own projects (more
on that later).
"Okay now who wants to vote for the second project?" he announced.
The second project got 16 votes if I remember well.
"Finally who wants to vote for the third project?" he concluded.
Around 8 people had worked on this project, and they also brought a
bunch of friends along, so they were on to a good start.... By this
time people were also more relaxed about walking to the stage, and
in the end they got 35 votes or so.
I was pretty disappointed with the results, and so were many of the
technical jurors. I politely thanked the organizers, got the second
place swag, and walked away with my brother. I really thought we
deserved to win, but figured things don't always work out as
expected.
Or do they?
I started thinking about it, and came to the conclusion that things
work as expected if you make them. If you think you deserve
something then you got to take it, cause in most situations in life
people will not serve it to you on a silver plate.
Had I insisted on drawing the presentation order at random, on
using a fair voting system and on prohibiting project participants
and friends on voting for their own project I believe we would have
won. And I should either have done that or withdraw from the
competition.
Sure, there would be some confrontation involved and I would need
to step out of my comfort zone, but if that is what it takes, so be
it.
Luckily it was just a small programming competition, and it helped
me to learn an important lesson.
Think about your career, your business, your relationships, your
finances. If you want something, you got to take it. Nobody is
gonna just handle it to you, whether you deserve it or not.
If the circumstances are not there, create them.
Cause if you don't, somebody else will.

George, Check This Guest Blogging Platform
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the DailyBlogTips newsletter.
As you might have noticed I have frequent guest posts on DBT
(usually a couple every week). I think those posts enrich the blog,
as they bring the opinions and perspectives from other bloggers,
and they also help to keep the content flowing on the site.
The problem is that the process is somewhat cumbersome. People
email me pitching a guest post. Sometimes they include the article,
sometimes they don't (which means I need to send yet another
email). Then I reply saying whether I'll use the post or not.
And then I need to paste the content to WordPress and iron out all
the formatting.
That's why a couple of months ago I had an idea: to create a
WordPress plugin that would allow interested people to
automatically submit posts, and the posts would be saved and
formatted inside WordPress, so I would just need to scan through
them and hit "Publish" on the ones I liked.
Needless to say I never found the time to code the plugin, but a
couple of weeks ago I discovered I didn't need to do it
anymore, cause somebody else had already.
In reality it's much more than a plugin, it's a complete
guest blogging platform, called PostRunner. Here's the link:
--> http://postrunner.com/
Here's how it works on the publisher side (i.e., if you have a
blog and want to accept guest posts): after you sign-up and
register your website (the platform is free to use if you have a
single site/blog) you will start receiving guest post offers from
authors. You can specify what kind of content you are looking for,
what is the minimum score the author must have before being able to
submit a post to you, the minimum word count of the article and so
on.
The platform uses a WordPress plugin that will import all submited
posts directly into your site, and you'll be able to
approve/reject them directly from your dashboard. The obvious
advantages are that it will streamline the process of accepting
guest posts on your site, and that it probably will also increase
the amount of guest post offers you receive, especially if your
site is small/medium sized.
And this is the just half of the story. You can also use the
platform to promote your site by submiting guest posts to
registered websites.
They have over 600 sites registered already, and while browsing
those sites you'll be able to see their PageRank, the minimum
word count they require and the number of links they allow on the
byline. You can also filter the results to specific categories and
keywords.
In other words, if you are looking to promote your site with guest
blogging this platform will make the process much more efficient,
as you'll be able to find suitable sites and blogs faster and
the chances of getting a post approved are higher as well.
Here's the link again:
--> http://postrunner.com/
Overall I really like the idea. As I mentioned above, it's
something I would have launched myself if I had time (now it's
too late...). If you have a blog/website you should check
PostRunner out, as using the platform is completely free up to one
website, and it will allow you to both increase the amount of guest
post offers you receive and to promote your site by guest blogging
on other sites.

George, Here's My Black Friday Offer to You
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the DailyBlogTips newsletter.
I know you probably are being bombarded with Black Friday deals,
but I have one which I think you'll like.
HostGator, which is the company hosting all my websites, is having
a special offer with 50% discount on all their plans. The basic plan,
for instance, is going for $4.48 monthly, instead of $10. If you
pay for 6 or 12 months in advance you'll get the discount applied
to all that period. For example, you can get 6 months of hosting
for $26.
That alone is a pretty good deal. On top of that if you sign-up
today or tomorrow I'll be giving you a free member account to my
Online Profits program. You'll get access to all the lessons (over
100), tools, case studies, and so on.
You just need to sign-up here (any hosting plan you prefer, even
the basic one):
-> http://secure.hostgator.com/~affiliat/cgi-bin/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=onlineprofits
Once you sign-up simply reply to this email mentioning the domain
name you used, and I'll setup your member account immediately.
See you inside!

George, Here's One Browser Extension You Must Have
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
These days I pretty much don't use any browser plugins or
extensions, but here's one that I think everyone should have. It's
called "Nanny for Google Chrome". I installed it yesterday, and I
have a feeling it will give me a great productivity boost.
Here's the problem I was trying to solve: despite knowing it's a
waste of time, I spend far too much time every day on Facebook,
Gmail, Reddit and news sites. Combining all of them I think it
would add up to 2 or 3 hours per day. Sure Gmail is mostly work
related, and the others have a professional aspect too (e.g., I
read news sites to keep up with the latest tech developments), but
still it's not where I add value to my business, so ideally those
activities should be kept to a minimum.
The solution: The Nanny for Chrome extension basically allows you
to input a list of URLs you want to control, specifying the amount
of time per day you are allowed to use each one. Here's how my list
looks like right now:
Gmail - 30 minutes per day
Facebook - 10 minutes per day
Reddit - 10 minutes per day
NYTimes, WSJ, Economist, etc - 10 minutes per day combined
After I use my quota the extension will basically block the sites,
and I'll do my best to respect that. If the quota is consumed while
you are on the site the extension will show a blank screen with
this headline: "Shouldn't you be working?". Pretty effective huh?
You can also block sites within specific time intervals (e.g., from
9am until 5pm), but since I work pretty much 24/7 I decided to give
each URL an allowed time per day. Here's the link to the
Chrome store where you can get the extension:
-> https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nanny-for-google-chrome-t/cljcgchbnolheggdgaeclffeagnnmhno
If you don't use Google Chrome you can download similar extensions
for pretty much every other browser out there. Just search on
Google for "extension/plugin to block URLs" and the name of your
favorite browser.

George, Do You Say "Thank You" Enough?
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
Before you ask me no, this is not an email about being polite or
having manners (though that doesn't hurt...). The point I want to
make is that saying "thank you" can also take you farther with your
business relationships.
A couple of months ago a reader of my blog emailed me saying he
was having trouble to get started with his online store. He didn't
know what kind of software to use, where to invest money, how to
promote the store and so on.
I had some time available, so I decided to help. I wrote a
relatively long email (300 words or so, which is pretty long to my
standards), making recommendations for the best software and tools,
explaining the best way to setup the website, the strategies to
promote it and so on.
I wasn't expecting anything in return from the other person, but
after a week or so he hadn't replied even to say "thank you", and
that pissed me off a bit.
Obviously I still wanted the guy to succeed with his online store,
but if a couple of months down the road he emailed me again asking
for help with something else I would probably just ignore him.
In other words, a single "thank you", either personally or via
email, can go a long way to strengthen your relationships and to
get people willing to help you out when you need it.
Bottom line: if someone helped you, be it a big help or a small
one, make sure to thank the person explicitly.

George, Do You Make This Email Mistake?
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
Today I want to talk about email. More specifically about a mistake
I see many people making: using a free service like Gmail, Hotmail
or Yahoo! to send business emails.
Why is that a mistake? Because it makes you look unprofessional.
Whenever I receive an email from someone claiming to be from a
web design agency, an SEO firm or a business company I check
the email address. If it ends with @gmail.com or @hotmail.com
I immediately trash the email, and many people do the same, so
avoid doing it. I wrote a detailed post about it here:
http://www.dailyblogtips.com/dont-use-gmailyahoohotmail-for-business-emails/
It seem to have struck a never, and it got over 30 comments in
a couple of days.
Most people agreed with me, but some complained that the email
clients that were offered with their you@yourdomain.com addresses
were terrible, while the big free services are quite nice to use.
Guess what, you can attach your you@yourdomain.com address to
your Gmail or Hotmail account, getting the best of both worlds.
If you want to do this I just published a post explaining how to:

George, Looking for a Solid Blogging Course?
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
I am sure you already came across a bunch of "blogging
courses", right? I find most of them amateurish, where usually
you have a blogger who reached 20,000 monthly visitors on his blog
and thinks he is already capable of teaching other people (charging
for it!).
Obviously I don't recommend such courses or programs.
But, if you're just getting started with your blog or planning
on starting soon, there's a new course you should be sure to
check out.
It's offered by the New York Institute of Career Development,
and it gives you all the information you need to become a
professional blogger. If you want to sign-up the link is below:
--> http://nyicd.com/getstarted/professional-blogging-course.php?code=D115
What I liked about the course is the fact that it was created by a
professional company, so both the material and the presentation
are top notch. For example, the lessons include illustrated
text, audio content on CDs and video tutorials on DVDs.
All the material was put together by successful bloggers who've
shared their stories and tips for generating a high quality blog,
and you also get access to a mentor that you can talk to via phone
or email.
Here's are some of the topics covered:
- Choosing your niche and developing your writing voice
- How to write like a professional
- How to create a blog from scratch using SquareSpace
- Using social media, SEO and online marketing
- Monetizing your blog with ads and affiliate marketing
The course doesn't cover advanced SEO or monetization
strategies, so if you already have been blogging for a while and
know the ropes the course is not for you. If don't have a blog
yet or are just getting started, however, I think you could benefit
a lot from it.
You can sign-up to receive their course catalog for free, and after
that you can decide if you want to take the course or not.

George, Check These 10 Mobile Ready Web Templates
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
A couple of months ago I sent you a message about a promotion that
the Mighty Deals website was having. It was a package of 10
fully-responsive web templates, do you remember?
The feedback I got from readers was great, and it was a success for
the creators of the themes as well, so much that they decided to
run a similar promotion, with 10 new templates being offered (i.e.,
even if you purchased the original package, make sure to check this
one out).
Each of those themes costs $30 individually (you can go to the
FlashMint website to check it out), but on the promotional package
you'll get 10 of them for $17 (instead of $300). Not bad huh?
Here's the link where you can get it:
http://www.mightydeals.com/deal/flashmint-onepage.html?ref=dailyblogtipsonepageresponsive
"Fully-responsive" means that the templates adapt to the
device that is used to view them. For instance, they will display
differently on a smartphone, on a tablet, on a desktop computer
with a small screen, with a large screen and so on. In other words,
if you use the templates on your website it will already be ready
for mobile devices.
You can test this feature if you want. Simply launch the demo of
one of the themes and then narrow the browser window gradually. You
should notice the elements moving around and changing size to adapt
to the browser window.
The themes are also optimized for SEO, for speed, and the PSD files
are included, so you can customize them, either for yourself or for
clients.
For $17 it's a pretty sweet deal in my opinion (I bought it
too). Here's the link again:

George, Here's A Negotiation Tip I Learned Today
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
I have an important business presentation scheduled 8 days from
now, and I figured I should bring some business cards to exchange
with people who will be there. The cards I had in hand were old and
with incorrect information on them (e.g., old email and telephone
number), so I decided to get new ones.
After researching a bit on the web I found a local company that
does both the design and the printing of the cards. They are quite
expensive (around $150 for 1,000 cards), but their work looks
solid, so I decided to go with them.
On the website it said that delivery took up to 10 week days, but I
figured it wouldn't be a problem for them to deliver my cards
within 8 days.
Long story short I paid upfront, they sent a mock of the design, I
liked it and said they could proceed to print. I also mentioned I
would need the cards within 8 days. The answer I got back:
"Maybe the cards will be ready within 8 days, but we can't
guarantee it. As you read on our website our delivery time is 10
week days."
My big mistake was to close the deal too soon. I am pretty sure
that if I had put a requirement of getting the cards within 8 days
before closing the deal and paying the answer would be: "Sure
thing, we can most definitely deliver it within 8 days." After the
money changed hands, though, my bargaining power was down the drain.
Sure, it was just a set of business cards and $150, but the concept
applies to any sort of negotiation, whether you are buying a car, a
business, hiring a freelancer and so on.
Lesson learned: remember to lay all your requirements down before
closing the deal and paying the other part.

George, Check Out These 10 Web Templates
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned an offer from the Mighty Deals
website, and the feedback was pretty good, so I decided to let you know
about another one.
This time the deal is about HTML/CSS web templates that you can use
on your own websites or on the site of clients. The templates are
coming from a design company called FlashMint.
If you go to their website you'll notice that each template sells for
$45, but the guys from Mighty deals bunbled 10 themes together for $17
instead of the regular $450. Here's the link for you to check them out:
http://www.mightydeals.com/deal/flashmint-responsive-web-templates.html?ref=dailyblogtipsresponsive
The templates are ready to go for specific topics and niches. For
instance, you have one for sports, a couple for corporate and business,
one for interior design and so on.
They also have a fluid-width design, which means that themes resize
according to the screen size, which is nice if your audience is coming
from mobile devices and tablets.
Here's the link to the Mighty Deals page where you can get the
bundle of 10 themes for $17 (the offer ends soon so don't miss out):

George, The Freelance Writing Course Is Live
Daniel Scocco here and this is the DailyBlogTips newsletter.
A couple of years ago I noticed that the demand for online
freelance writers was booming. The Internet was becoming the
predominant medium for companies to reach their customers, so those
companies were looking to hire writers who could produce online
content for them.
That's when I got the idea for the Freelance Writing Course. Here's
the link:
--> http://www.dailywritingtips.com/freelance-writing-course/
I had a friend who had been running a successful freelance writing
business for many years (Ali Hale, who also writers regularly for
Copyblogger, Problogger, etc.), and I asked her if she would be
interested in helping me with the content of the course. She
agreed, and we launched it back in 2010.
The course had three editions already, with over 700 students
combined. Everytime we launched it the feedback was great, and
that's why we decided to run it again this year. In fact the
doors opened for enrollment yesterday, and they will stay open
until this Friday, June 08.
There are six modules, and you go through one each week. They are:
1. Maximizing Your Writing Productivity to Multiply Your Profits
2. Website Setup, Promotion and Guest Blogging
3. Writing Content For The Web, A Totally Different Beast
4. Finding Clients and Developing High Paying Jobs
5. Running A Freelance Writing Business Efficiently
6. Using Social Media To Promote Yourself and Land More Writing Jobs
Apart from the lessons you'll get access to a private forum
where you can ask questions, and to a bunch of bonuses. We are also
offering a 60-day money back guarantee, so there's no risk in
joining. Click on the link below to visit the official page where you
can get all the details and enroll:

George , Here's a Platform to Test Your Affiliate Offers
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
I am always looking for new websites to use as marketing platforms
for my projects and products, and an interesting one I found
recently is called UKritic. Think about it as a Squidoo for
product reviews. Here's the link:
--> http://www.ukritic.com
Basically users sign-up and write reviews about the product they
have used or bought. Unlike other websites with user-generated content,
however, UKritic will give you a piece of the action if people reading
your reviews end up purchasing the product. In other words, they are
totally fine to have affiliate marketers aboard.
If you are just getting started with affiliate marketing this might
actually be a good place to test things out. That is, you could
pick a range of products and niches you want to promote and test
things out on their platform. After that you check what types of
reviews and products convert better, and then you decide if you
want to spend time and money building a whole website around those
or not.
Right after you sign-up you'll be able to start writing your
reviews. Before your profile becomes public, though, you need to
have at least one review approved by the moderators, which is a
positive thing in my opinion, as it helps to keep the level of spam
down. If you visit the site you'll notice that every review has
three big orange buttons pointing to the seller's website: one on
top, on on the sidebar and one at the bottom.
Guess what, you can provide your affiliate links when writing the
review and those buttons will carry it for you, so you get
commissions for buyers going through your Ukritic review. You can
also embed affiliate links in the body of the review if you prefer.
Here's the link again:
--> http://www.ukritic.com
Overall I think it's a nice idea, and I believe the approach to
support rather than prohibit affiliate marketing will definitely
help this platform to become popular, so check it out.

George, Burn the Bridges
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
First of all keep in mind I don't support or see as a positive
thing the massacres that happened in Central and South America when
Spain, Portugal and other European nations started colonizing the
continent. Quite the opposite. That being said we can still learn
from their strategic and military choices, and that is what this
post is about.
Hernán Cortés was the Spanish general who was responsible for the
fall of the Aztec Empire and sub-sequent colonization of the
Americas by Spain. His military technology was far superior, but
the Aztec outnumbered his men, and they were fighting for their
lives (i.e., as motivated as you can get...).
In other words, he needed something to motivate his men to fight
eagerly as well, else there was a chance they would be defeated.
That is why when he arrived at the shores he gave orders to burn
and sink all the ships that brought his men. He wanted to make it
clear that retreating was not an option. If the Aztecs were
fighting for their lives, well, so were the Spanish men now. And as
you might remember from history classes, it worked.
Bottom line: sometimes you need to burn the ships and the bridges
behind you to make sure you'll give all you've got.
Here are some examples of how this might apply to startups and
websites, even if at a smaller scale:
-Renew your domain for 10 years, so you tell yourself that this is
for the long run.
-Invest $1000 on a design for your website, so you tell yourself
that if you stop working on it you'll lose that money.
-Once your online business starts making some decent money consider
quitting your day job, so you tell yourself that now your websites
need to pay your bills.
What about you, are you willing to burn the bridges?

George, Here Are My 5 Must Read Business Books
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
Over the years I've read my share of business books. Some were
terrible, some were fine, and some were pretty good. Among all of
those there are a handful which changed the way I thought about
business, for the better. Those I consider must-reads.
I just published a post on my blog with those 5 must read
business books. Here's the link:

If there's one on the list you haven't read it yet do yourself

impact on you as well.

Missed the Webinar? There's a Second Chance Tomorrow
The feedback on yesterday's webinar with Clay Collins was terrific.
I myself learned a bunch of stuff from Clay, and
I have been playing this Internet marketing game for a while...
If you missed the boat on yesterday's call then today's
your lucky day because you have one more chance. There's going to
be an encore call this Saturday, April 14th, 2012 at the following
times:
--10 AM Pacific
--11 AM Mountain
--12 Noon Central
--1 PM Eastern
You can sign-up for it here:
-> http://www.guestlectureevent.com/danielscoccoandclay/
Here's what you're going to learn on the webinar:
-How you can make more money from your upcoming product BEFORE it
exists than most people make years after they've finished their
product (especially if you don't know what your product or market
is yet)
-Why you should never ever ever create a product until
long AFTER it's already a profitable crowd favorite
-How to get paid to figure out what books, e-books,
coaching programs, and online courses to sell
-Learn from dynamic case studies; including the recent
story of how one Sleep Coach got her market to "pre-buy"
an advance copy of her very first online course . . . and
made $71k before she even *started* making her program or knew what
it would be
-How to combine your product development and marketing
efforts so that you're killing two birds with one stone...
and creating proven marketing (effortlessly) while you're
creating your product
-How to create a movement that naturally births a product
that everyone in your tribe wants to buy
This stuff can radically change the way you think about your
business. Here's the sign-up link again:

George, Join Us Today at 8PM EST for the Webinar
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
The unfortunate truth is that about 80% of published books sell
less than 99 copies.
And trust me on this: most online courses, membership sites, and
ebooks do much worse.
The famous statistician W. Edwards Deming once said that "94% of
all failure was the result of a system that failed."
And clearly, the system that nearly everyone uses to create and
sell courses, programs, books, and products . . . has failed.
Big time.
Meanwhile, my friend Clay routinely gets his clients to "Pre-sell"
their products and make almost six-figures BEFORE the product is
created (while doing everything in a 100% "up-front" and honorable
way that truly helps customers, and makes them thrilled to buy).
And get this... Clay's system often has folks starting their
Presell before they even know exactly what their upcoming product,
program, or book might be.
I am sure you want to hear more about it, so come join us later
today (April 12) on the live webinar. It's completely free and
exclusive for the DBT subscribers. Here are the different time
zones for the event:
--5PM Pacific
--6PM Mountain
--7PM Central
--8PM EST
The sign-up link is below:
--> http://www.guestlectureevent.com/danielscoccoandclay/
With ~80% of books selling less than 100 copies (and most online
products doing even worse), the process of investing time and money
you don't have into creating a product that (statistically
speaking) will likely never have success doesn't sound like a good
idea.
The system needs to change, and you have two choices.
You can keep using the old methods and strategies and probably keep
getting the old results, or you can take a radically different
approach and turn the odds in your favor.
The webinar is free, so you have nothing to lose, but a lot to
gain. Here's the link again:

George, Is Your Product Creation Plan Sound?
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
Today I want to address another important point about product
creation.
As entrepreneurs, many of us spend far too much time "preparing" to
release our flagship book, course, or product into the world, and
not enough time rolling up our sleeves and doing it!
In fact, just the other day I saw an email that went like this:
> I know I need to release my product, but right now I am just
> focused on building up my blog, building my audience,
> and making lasting connections. Then I will need to
> spend a good few months creating a product
> with incredible value, and finally I'll be ready to start
> the launch phase.
> --Stephan
Stephan's "plan" requires him to (1) build a blog, (2) build his
audience, (3) make lasting connections, (4) spend months creating a
product . . . all BEFORE he releases his product.
And if know anything about Stephan (and folks in his situation)
he'll probably turn these four steps into two years of work.
And during these two years, he might (unfortunately) run out of
steam, run out of money, and quit altogether. Which happens quite
often.
Anyway, if Stephan's plan sounds anything like yours, then you
should think twice and review your strategy. In fact I want to
encourage you again to attend the webinar my friend Clay Collins
will be hosting on this topic, exclusive for DBT subscribers.
Here's the sign-up link:
--> http://www.guestlectureevent.com/danielscoccoandclay/
Stephan's plan is the result of far too many incorrect assumptions.
It doesn't have to be this way. Not by a long shot.
As I mentioned last week Clay has a system to launch products that
allows you to build your audience WHILE you are studying your
market. Not only that, you can actually launch before you have the
product ready to go, and this strategy might even increase the
value of your product because it will be more aligned with the
needs of your customers.
Sounds intriguing? Then join us for the free webinar on Thursday,
April 12th (5PM Pacific, 7pm Central, 8pm Eastern).

George, Are You Still Struggling to Create Your Product?
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
I've been running Daily Blog Tips for a long time now, and year
after year I see many people holding back from creating their own
products, be that a book, course, event, or membership site,
despite the fact that doing so is one of the most profitable
business models you can have.
How come? I think there are mainly two reasons:
First, they don't release their book, course, or product because
they simply can't find the funds or time to do it.
Or, second, they're paralyzed by the possibility that they'll spend
months of their lives creating a masterpiece (hoping it will erupt
into the world) only to find out that no one wants to buy it.
If you fall into either of these groups I have something you'll be
interested in: my friend Clay Collins, who is one of the sharpest
minds I know when it comes to online product creation, will be
hosting a free webinar for DBT subscribers where he will talk
exactly about those challenges and how you can overcome them. The
webinar will take place on Thursday, April 12th (5PM Pacific, 7pm
Central, 8pm Eastern), and here's the link where you can sign-up:
--> http://www.guestlectureevent.com/danielscoccoandclay/
I met Clay at Blog World Expo a couple of years ago, and I
discovered he had a very effective system to get your market to
tell you the exact book, online course, or coaching program they
want to buy from you, which involves getting them to "pre-buy" it
from you before you create it (making you profitable long before
you've spent one cent producing it).
What's great about Clay's process is that it's a completely up
front method that truly helps out your customers and makes them
thrilled to buy an advance copy of your program or product. The
cool thing is that it works even if you don't have the slightest
clue what your niche is or what your upcoming product might be.
Anyway, the virtual event I'm putting on with Clay won't cost you
dime, and I hope you join us (I promise you it will be worth your
time).
This is THE online event to attend if you're even vaguely
interested in how to get paid (by your market) to figure out what
books, e-books, coaching programs, and online courses to sell (or
how to create a movement that naturally births a product that
everyone in your tribe wants).
This is also for you if you want to determine with certainty,
before you offer your product or program, how much demand you'll
have. Here's the sign-up link again:

George, You Only Lose When You Quit
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
Succeeding is not hard if you think about it.
All is takes is persistence and a minimal amount of common sense.
The common sense part is to make sure you will learn from your
failures and not repeat your mistakes. If you got that and are
willing to keep trying, sooner or later you will succeed.
I am not saying it's easy, as the "keep trying" part can be quite
cumbersome. You might need to sacrifice things like time with
friends, entertainment, travels and what not. But if you are
willing to pay that price, again, sooner or later you will succeed.
In other words, you'll only lose the game if you quit. Even if you
keep failing it still won't be over until you either quit or
finally make it. These are the only possible outcomes.
You probably heard about the game Angry Birds, right? It's the most
popular game on most mobile platforms, with over 13 million
downloads to date. As a consequence of its success Rovio, the
company behind the game, is now worth $2 billion.
How did they manage such a hit? With persistence and some common
sense. How do I know this? Because they launched 50 games that went
no where before hitting it big with Angry Birds.
You only lose when you quit.
Talk to you next week,
Daniel Scocco

George, Here's How You Can Make Money on YouTube
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
You probably already heard about success stories on YouTube,
right? I am talking about people who started uploading videos
just for fun or as a hobby, and now are making a good living
out of it.
Well, if you are interested in the video side of things this
week I published two posts you might like. The first one is
about one of those success stories. That is, a British couple
who made over $150,000 with a single video of their children.
Here's the link:
http://www.dailyblogtips.com/how-much-money-can-you-make-on-youtube/
After I published that post many people asked me how you can
actually achieve that, so I wrote a follow-up post with the
steps you need to go through to become a YouTube partner:

Who knows, maybe there's a video producer inside of you and
we don't know it yet?
Either way the information is on those articles, and if it
helps you or give you some new ideas at least I'll be glad!

George, Last Chance to Join the AdSense Profits Course
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
In less than 24 hours the registrations to the AdSense Online
Profits course will be closing. I am pretty sure I won't re-open it
in 2012 (if at all), so this is the last chance you have to join
the course this year. Here's the course page:
--> http://www.dailyblogtips.com/course/
Here's a testimonial from a past student:
"I certainly didn't think AdSense could be a source of any
significant income until I started doing some research, but even
then it was exhausting trying to learn the best ways to implement
it. That's what was so nice about Daniel's course, having someone
experienced to explain everything and being available to answer
questions is priceless. Before taking the course my blog was
generating around $250 monthly, and after implementing the changes
and strategies I learned the earnings jumped to over $1000 monthly."
I am pretty sure that your earnings will increase quite a bit after
you join, and that's exactly why I offer a 60-day money back
guarantee. If you take the course and don't start making money with
AdSense within weeks simply email me and I'll refund your money. If
I remember well only 3 people asked for a refund on the last
edition (out of hundreds who joined).
In other words, you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain, so
what are you waiting for? You can sign-up here:

George, Ready to Start Making Some Real Money with AdSense?
Today I am opening the registrations for the AdSense Profits Course
again. The doors will stay open for 4 days only (i.e., until this
Friday, midnight GMT), so if you were planning to join make sure to
check it out today. Here's the link to the course page:
--> http://www.dailyblogtips.com/course/
When I created the course last year I was not sure if I would
re-launch it or not, but the feedback I got was so positive that I
decided to run it at least one more time (so yeah there's a chance
I won't be opening it again). Most people who joined the course saw
a significant boost in their AdSense earnings and recovered the
course fee within weeks of joining. Some went further and managed
to increase their AdSense income by 30%, 50%, even 400% in one case.
The course runs for 6-weeks, and each week you'll get access to a
new module, as well as to a list of assigned tasks you are supposed
to complete. The modules are:
1. AdSense Basics: Understanding how the program works and what
things
are supposed to do and not to do.
2. AdSense Optimization: How to choose the right units, how to
position them efficiently, how to format the ads for maximum CTR
and so on.
3. Keyword Research: How to estimate traffic from Google, how to
choose profitable keywords, how to develop a better content
strategy for your websites and so on.
4. Search Engine Optimization: Everything you need to know about
search engines and optimizing your sites for better rankings.
5. Website Promotion: How to promote your websites and increase your
traffic consistently over time.
6. Buying Websites for AdSense: Where to find the best deals, how to
conduct the negotiation, how to tweak the sites once you bought
them and so on.
If you want to get your website or blog reviewed you can request it
inside the private forum and I'll personally review it for you
giving suggestions to improve your AdSense placements, your design
and your overall SEO strategy. This was one of the most popular
sections last year, and I expect it will be no different this time.
Finally, there's a 60-day money back guarantee, so you can take the
whole course, apply the stuff you'll learn, see what results you'll
get, and only then decide whether or not you want to keep it.

George, The AdSense Profits Course Opens Next Tuesday
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
The launch date of my AdSense Profits Course was February 14,
but I was busy adding more materials to the members area, so
I decided to postpone it by one week. Now it's official though,
doors open next Tuesday, February 21.
As promised I have one more interview for you with a past
student. This one is with a woman called Cassi Griffin, who
owns a blog about crafts for children! Sounds like a small
niche? Well, she was already making $250 monthly with her
site before joining my course, and after she applied the
strategies I suggested to her the earnings jumped to over
$1000 monthly!
Here's the link for the full interview:
http://www.dailyblogtips.com/adsense-profits-interview-thecraftycrow-com/
I'll send you an email next week as soon as we open the doors.
Best wishes,
Daniel Scocco

George, Come Join the New Social Media Club
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
Back in 2009 I created two clubs, one called "Retweet Club" and the
other one called "Facebook Club", where members would share each
other's content, with the goal of increasing social media traffic
to their blogs and websites.
The clubs worked as mailing lists (using Google Groups), but
eventually the activity died down. The main reason was the
following: sharing wasn't fair. A member could be selfish and only
send requests to the club, without ever sharing the content from
other members.
A couple of weeks ago I started thinking about what could be a
better model, and I came up with this: a club where members would
earn points by sharing the content from other members, and once
they reached a certain amount, say 10 points, they would be able to
spend those points to post their own request to the club.
This would make the system pretty fair, because members who didn't
share the content of other members wouldn't earn points and
wouldn't be able to post their requests. In turn members who were
very active would earn more points and be able to post more
requests.
I spent the last week or so coding such a platform, and I launched
it a couple of days ago. Despite that we already have 90 active
members and over 500 retweets!
The club is completely free and works on a website (so don't
worry about getting tons of emails). Here's the URL:
--> http://www.socialmedclub.com
So far only the Twitter section is working (i.e., you can only
retweet stuff from other members and request retweets on your own),
but I am working on the Facebook section already and it should go
live within a couple of weeks.
See you inside,
Daniel Scocco

George, Another AdSense Profits Interview Is Live
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
The re-launch of my AdSense Profits Course is coming (February
14) and I have some more interviews with past students lined
up for you.
I think those are interesting because apart from promoting my
course (which is obviously one of my goals) they also allow you
to learn a tip or two, and to see what strategies other people
are using to make money with AdSense.
The results the past students got were simply amazing. Some
increase their earnings by 20%, some by 50%, and last week
I even got an email from a woman telling me her AdSense income
was up by 500% since he joined the course! Her interview is
coming next week by the way.
Today I want to point you to the interview with Simon Ng. He's
not located in the US, and yet he manages to make quite a good
living with AdSense. You'll find how on here:
http://www.dailyblogtips.com/adsense-profits-interview-simonblog-com/
If you missed the previous interviews just check the "Related Posts"
below that one, as the are listed there.
Talk to you next week,
Daniel Scocco

How to Get Massive Blog Traffic, Even If You're a Beginner
Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.
Whenever I ask my blog readers what's their biggest challenge,
most of them reply with this: "increasing the traffic of my blog."
A couple of weeks ago I was talking about this topic with a
friend of mine, Jon Morrow. The name sounds familiar? That's
because he's an associated editor at Copyblogger!
Basically Jon told me he was working on a program focused on
leveraging guest blogging to increase one's blog traffic. Since
I also think this is one of the best strategies you can use, I
asked if he would be interested in doing a webinar for my
readers talking about it. He agreed, and it will take place
this Thursday, January 26, completely free. Here's the registration
link:
--> http://guestblogging.com/webinars/dailyblogtips/?AFFID=79393
Just to give you some background about him, a couple of years ago
he managed to grow a blog from 0 to 70,000 visitors in a matter
of months!
After that he landed some guest posts on Copyblogger, and Brian
Clark liked his work so much that he invited Jon to become an
Associate Editor. With Jon on the team Copyblogger grew to over
3 million monthly page views.
Some of his guest posts attracted thousands of visitors, backlinks,
retweets and Facebook shares.
He'll be talking about all that and more on Thursday's free webinar.
Even if you can attend it live I encourage you to register for it,
because Jon will record it and send a replay link to all the
people on the email list. Here's the link again:
--> http://guestblogging.com/webinars/dailyblogtips/?AFFID=79393
I hope you like it, and if I get positive feedback I'll be sure
to schedule more of those webinars in the future for you guys.
Talk to you next week,
Daniel Scocco
