George, The Pareto Principle Can Save Your Business

Hi George,

Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.

Today I want to talk about the famous Pareto principle, and how it
can actually save your business.

-------

The Pareto principle, which is also called the 80-20 rule, states
that for many events and things in life, 80% of the effects come
from 20% of the causes.

For example, an Italian economist once observed that 80% of land
in Italy was owned by 20% of the people. His name was Vilfredo
Pareto, and that is where the principle got its name from.

Another famous example: Microsoft once found that by eliminating 20%
of the largest bugs in its operating system 80% of the crashes
would stop.

Another one: most businesses find that 80% of their revenues come
from just 20% of the customers.

So how can the Pareto principle save your business? Well, it is
clear: by identifying and focusing your work on the 20% of the tasks
that will generate 80% of the results you'll become much more
efficient and profitable.

Here is one practical example that you probably can relate to.
Suppose you have a blog and that you are trying to make it popular
(e.g., to increase its traffic). There are many things you could
do to achieve that, including:

-write quality content
-promote that content
-use social media (e.g., Twitter and Facebook)
-use social bookmarking sites (e.g., Digg and Reddit)
-tweak your design
-track your stats
-chat with readers
-create Youtube videos
-article marketing
-submit your blog to directories
-search engine optimization

That is a lot of things right? And many bloggers actually do all of
them. But what does the Pareto principle tell us about this? It's
simple: 20% of these activities are going to produce 80% of the
traffic gain.

In fact I place these activities right on top for that reason. They
are: writing quality content and promoting that content. If you do
these two things you'll get new readers, new subscribers, backlinks
from other sites, your search rankings will increase, and
ultimately your traffic will increase.

Sure, the other activities can help, but 80% of the results will
come from writing quality content and promoting it.

Guess where you should spend most of your time?

And remember that the Pareto principle works on almost any
situation, so apply it for your own business or website, and focus on
the 20% of things that will bring you 80% of the results.

George, Do You Know What The PPC Quality Score Is?

Hi George,

Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.

Today I want to talk about PPC advertising. More specifically, I
want to talk about the "Quality Score" concept, which is very
important to anyone interested in using PPC.

-------

As you probably know PPC stands for Pay-Per-Click, and it is an
advertising model where you'll pay a specific amount for each click
that the ad network will send to your site.

The largest PPC network around is Google AdWords, and it's a very
efficient promotional channel because it allows you to display your
ads directly in Google's search results for people who are searching
for specific keywords. In other words, you can get very targeted
traffic with PPC ads.

The problem is that you need to know how to optimize your PPC
campaigns, else you'll end up wasting a lot of money and getting
no results.

A key concept you need to understand if you want to have success
with PPC campaigns is the "Quality Score" one, because it will
affect both how much you will end up paying per click and the
position of your ads. In other words, the higher your Quality
Score, the higher the traffic that you will be able to buy for the
same amount of money.

Basically each keyword inside your ad groups will have its own
Quality Score. Once a search query is performed in Google, the
AdWords system will gather all the advertisers who are bidding on
that keyword, and it will use both the bid amount and the Quality
Score of each keyword in the ad groups of those advertisers to
determine what ads will be displayed, and in what order.

If you are going to put ads in Google's Search Network (i.e., in
Google's search results), these are factors that will affect the
Quality Score of your keywords:

-the average CTR (click-through rate) of your ad
-the average CTR of all the ads in your Adwords account
-the quality of the landing page for the ad
-the relevance of the keyword to the content of the ad
-other relevance factors

Practically speaking, this means that you should:

1. Create many versions of your ads, with different headlines and
descriptions, and then stick with the ones with the higher CTR.
2. Make sure that the landing page for your ads respect Google's
quality guidelines (i.e., plenty of content, no popups, etc).
3. Make sure that you only target keywords related to your ads.
4. Make sure that you only target keywords related to the content
of your landing page.

If you try to spend less per click by targeting unrelated keywords,
for example, you might save some money in the short term, but over
the long run you'll ruin your Quality Score and the efficiency of
your PPC campaigns will decrease.

optimize your campaigns for maximum results come check my training

George, Here Is A Quick Strategy To Increase Your Traffic

Hi George,

Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.

Today I want to point you to an article I wrote a while ago, about
a strategy to increase blog traffic. I am sure you'll find it
useful.

-------

First of all, even if you have a "normal" website like an online
store or a niche website, you can still use the strategy I'll
describe. You would just need to add a blog as an internal part
of your site, or publish the articles directly on the site, without
using the blog format. In other words, it's a strategy anyone can
use.

I basically wrote that article for the people who are having a hard
time increasing their traffic beyond the 100 daily page views level.
The strategy is composed of four simple steps, and combined they
will not take more than a couple of hours daily.

If you apply the steps as recommended I am sure you'll be able to
reach 1,000 daily page views or more in no time.

Here is the link to the article:

There are over 150 comments there already, so people must be liking
it.

George, Check This Interview With One Of My Students

Hi George,

Daniel Scocco here, and this is the Daily Blog Tips newsletter.

Many students of the my Online Profits training program have
already crossed the $1,000 per month mark, so I figured it would be
interesting to feature some of them. Below you'll find an
interview I did with Andreas Kam, who joined Online Profits in
January of 2010. It's a bit long, but there are some nice tips in
the end.

-------

Q: When did you started building your first blog or website?

A: My blog, LondonCyclist.co.uk, came to life 3 years ago. When I
moved to London I realised cycling would be the best to move
around, but I knew little about it so I decided to look for good
information online. When I found out it didn't exist, I started a
blog about it. I taught myself everything while I shared the
knowledge with others.

Q: How did it work out initially?

A: Initially I didn't have any business interest in the blog. I
would just post something online when I discover something that
interested me or that I thought other people would find
interesting. That was for the first two years. Once leaving
university I put my full time into the blog but for the first 6
months profits were very slow so I used up a lot of my savings and
my parents started to worry.

Q: Do you remember some of the numbers?

A: Yes. Early in 2010 the blog was getting around 22,000 visits per
month, with around 300 RSS/email subscribers. As for revenues, it
was not making any significant money.

Q: How did you come across Online Profits, and why did you decide
to join?

A: I was following Darren Rowses blog and if I remember correctly I
saw an interview with you there. It arrived at exactly the right
time when I was thinking about going professional with my blog.

Q: What do you think of the training material and resources you
found there?

A: It was fantastic to finally have all these materials together in
one place in an easy to follow format. In the first few lessons I
learned about a huge number of errors I was making. I was pleased
everything was in text and audio format so I could follow it in a
way suitable to me. I personally find I digest text far more
quickly. It was also good to have a forum for support questions. It
really answered a ton of questions immediately that I had for ages
and also helped me discover so much more about blogging. It was
really the kick start I needed.

Q: In what ways did you implement what you learned on your own blog?

A: I quickly realised that Adsense was not a strategy for me moving
forward. There were far better ways to monetize my blog. That is
why I started working on my own product: an eBook with 30 London
Cycling Routes). The eBook has been a huge success and I wouldn't
have thought to create it without the course. I've had interest
from people wanting to publish it and it continues to bring in a
steady income that pays my rent.

I also started an Aweber newsletter. This helped me connect with my
audience and have their permission to keep in contact regularly. As
of today I have over 2,000 subscribers on my list.

Q: What kind of results did you get?

A: My traffic grew a lot (I am receiving over 70,000 visits per
month now) and I practically went from $0 to $1,000 monthly in
revenues. The money I made with the blog paid for two weeks in
Brazil enjoying Rio De Janeiro. Since then things have continued to
grow and so many opportunities have arisen, such as collaborating
on an iPhone application and interviewing the Mayor of London. I'm
sure without this strong start to my blogging career I would be in
a 9-5 job now.

Q: What tips would you give to someone who is getting started
online and wants to make some money eventually?

A: First of all I would recommend the person to create his own
product. If you just use advertising on your blog or website,
you'll never know how much money you could actually be making.

Second, start building an email list as soon as possible. I used
Daniel's advice and created a freebie to entice people to
subscribe, and in the end the list contributed a lot to my eBook's
success.

Third, make sure to be active in your niche and to build a
relationship with fellow bloggers. One way I did that was to create
a list with the Top 50 Cycling Blogs. Over 80% of them linked back
to me, and it enabled me to get in touch with all these bloggers.

material Andreas used to make his blog a success.
